Dissemination Workshop (APN GLOF Project)

A dissemination workshop under the APN project on Inventory of Glaciers, Glacial Lakes and GLOFs was organized on 25 April at the Bureau of Hydrology, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Pradeep Mool and Mr. Samjwal Bajracharya from MENRIS. Consultation meetings were also held with Bureau of Hydrology, Tibet University, TAAAS and other related institutions to discuss on the next phase of APN GLOF Project in China and the UNEP project proposal development.

A national training course on GIS for Agricultural Land Use Management Using ArcGIS was conducted from 12 – 23 May 2003 in CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University (CSKHPAU), India. The training was organized under co-financing from ICIMOD and CSKHPAU. Mr. Sushil Pradhan and Mr. Birendra Bajracharya from MENRIS carried out the training. There were 13 participants from the University and 4 from neighbouring institutions. 

Mr. Basanta Shrestha, Mr. Pradeep Mool and Ms. Monica Moktan from MENRIS joined the concluding session. Coinciding with the closing ceremony, a workshop on  “Inventory of Glaciers and Glacial Lakes and the identification of Potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) Affected by Global Warming in the Mountain of Himalayan Region” was organized. Discussions were held with the Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Tej Partap on possibilities of various collaborative activities. A MoU was signed with the university for collaborative work under the APN GLOF project. 

MENRIS organized an In-house Basic GIS training for ICIMOD staff from 23-27 June.The training was mainly targeted for professional staff, regional officers, APO's and interns who have joined ICIMOD recently and whose works are relevant to GIS.
