Preparation of the Hardware and Software policy for ICIMOD is in progress. Various options on hardware cost effectiveness, standardization are being explored and likewise licensing, different discount offers on software that are provided to the non-profit organizations are also being looked upon. The policies in other similar organizations will also be reviewed before drafting the hardware and software policy for ICIMOD. ICT Infrastructure update T he networking in the new HQ is in the end stage and the lightening arresters are being installed in the HQ. There are 21 earthing points in the campus and central earthing system will be linked with the server room.IP Surveillance system has been installed in ICIMOD and it is in the test phase. This system is configured and password protected. Internet Bandwidth Internet connectivity in ICIMOD’s new headquarters, which was previously channeled through Mercantile, Kathmandu, has now been transferred straight to Singapore via VSAT (very small aperture terminal). Similarly, Internet bandwidth has been increased to 224/576 Kbps from 96/256 Kbps. The Internet connectivity is on sharing basis between ICIMOD and Mountain Forum Secretariat (MFS) via VSAT whereby MFS will always have priority over 128/256 Kbps and ICIMOD 96/320 Kbps. Any unused bandwidth at any point of time will automatically go to the side needing it and therefore is mutually beneficial. Special router cum bandwidth manager will be installed for this purpose. The present bandwidth Video Conferencing will also be possible in ICIMOD, if required.
